BALANCING DEMAND WITH SUPPLY:
While the focus of this program is demand planning and forecasting, the importance of using demand plans to drive supply decisions is also discussed. Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) is explained in detail and case studies are used to ensure its practical application is understood. The importance of leveraging customer and supplier relationships and collaboration to improve demand numbers is discussed in detail. Alignment of the demand and forecasting process with the supply side configuration at both the tactical and operational level is well covered. With this knowledge, the forecasting and planning practitioners will be better equipped to contribute to improved supply chain and demand planning.
THE TOOLBOX:
Forecasting is part art and part science. To achieve best results, those involved must know and understand the various quantitative models available and when to use them. For example, many firms apply moving average models to seasonal and trending data leading to high forecast errors and loss of confidence in the demand planning process. The program provides an in-depth knowledge of all basic forecasting models including Time Series and Cause-and-Effect approaches. Examples and case studies are used to ensure the practitioner gains insight on their practical application, and becomes capable of selecting the best model for their scenario.
In addition, the participants will learn advanced models required for complex situations where data patterns are highly complex and more sophisticated tools are required. For example, an in-depth look at multiple regression models which use independent variables like leading indicators to improve the forecast. If structured properly these models can predict upturns or downturns in business months before they take place. Non-technical, process focused discussions and examples are included for those who are interested in the concepts, but will not be forecasting. The program includes a detailed description of the modeling process itself to help the participant make the right choices. When it comes to quantitative forecasting, it is not only important to do things right, but also to do the right things.
WHY THIS PROGRAM?
Demand planning and forecasting is not a luxury for a select few. Globalization, advancing technology, and increasing competition dictate that all key stakeholders in the business understand and participate as appropriate in the process. The purpose of this program is to present the “Fundamentals of Demand Planning and Forecasting" to all in the firm who want to learn how to develop accurate forecasts, communicate them to decision makers, and use the output to gain a competitive advantage. The program is a must for all involved in operations management and supply chain planning and execution.
